What I Wore Wednesday: Natural You

$

After a crazy few weeks, including Blondie Boy getting the chicken pox, I was more than happy to go for a night of pampering at Natural You Salon, Scottish Beauty Salon of the year 2013. I headed up with the lovely Paula and with only a slight sat nav hitch we made it to the salon in East Kilbride.

Natural You Salon has over 20 years experience in the Beauty Industry and recently underwent a glamorous new makeover. We were invited to try out some of their signature treatments on the night and first up I had a PRIORI® CoffeeBerry® facial.  Now I'm not normally a facial kind of girl; I tend to have sensitive skin and treatments leave me broken out and red. I was assured that Coffeeberry was for me and would act like a peel without any redness or irritation. I was a bit skeptical if I am honest but I had no need to be. My skin was all glowy and unbelievably smooth afterwards and I didn't break out or go red. It was so relaxing and I could see myself having them again now I know how my skin reacts.

Next up celebrity make-up artist Kevin Moore converted me again! I almost never wear foundation. I just don't like it. The new Vitage® Colour Minerals create a fresh faced, healthy look and are made using only natural occurring minerals that are mined and perfectly mixed to create concentrated colour pigments that perform differently to other minerals.  Kevin tried out the  Natural Daily Perfector mineral mousse on me and I was really surprised. The weightless formula delivers amazing coverage without feeling like you're wearing a mask. I've actually got in on today which is shocking because I never manage anything other than eye makeup before work but it really is that quick and easy.

To finish up my night of pampering I got a Shellac manicure in Grape Gum. It's no shocker I went for purple and I'm such a fan of Shellac manicures. With the proper care (almond oil before bed and in the morning) can last up to two weeks. Who wouldn't want a chip free manicure? If you are someone who is really rough on your hands they also offer a gel base to make your Shellac longer, too.

It was a really lovely evening and I'd 100% go back again. All the staff were so lovely and really did have your best interests in mind when recommending treatments. I also got to catch up with my bloggy bestie Susan who got a stunning makeover of her own.

It was a cold and dreary night and since I'd been home playing nurse to chicken poxy all day I didn't really have it in me to get super glammed up. So I decided to go a little bit rock and a little bit glam and a whole lot of comfy with my outfit.

Guns 'N Roses tee- Target
The Flirt Jeans- Old Navy

My BFF Sabrina got me this amazing Crown and Glory Gala Glitter Bow for Christmas and I've not had a reason to wear it yet so I decided tonight was the night. Ignore my wonky sleeves on my tee; originally I had both rolled but then I had a facial and got all blissed out and forgot!  I got the tee on mega-sale at Target; it's a men's tee but with the exception of the longer sleeves I like them because they are a longer fit than most women's tees and in general way cheaper.

In my head I was channeling the fab Miss West End Girl but I'm still not 100% if this outfit was a hit or a miss even though I got lots of compliments on my bow.

What do you think? Do giant glitter boys and 80's rock tees work together?

What I Wore Wednesday: Silver Sequin Slippers

So this isn't going to be your typical What I Wore Wednesday post but I hope you will bear with me. Last Monday my Mom had open heart surgery and had her aortic valve replaced with a new bovine valve.  She was born with a defect where instead of having three flaps, she only had two or bicuspid and after 60 years it was just really over-worked and narrowed and basically needed an upgrade.

So she headed off to Cedars Sinai and got her new valve.  The surgery went great and she's now home and has 8+ weeks of recovery ahead of her. Well what does all of this have to do with What I Wore Wednesday? For her surgery she got herself some new slippers:

silver sequin slippers

It should be known that when I got married my mom was on crutches with a broken foot and on one foot was the boot and the other a Manolo Blahnik---she loves her shoes.  So it makes sense she got some sparkly slippers. What makes these slippers even better is that she got the idea from a nonagenarian named Sylvia at my Grandmother's nursing home.  Bitch stole Sylvia's look! (please tell you y'all watch fashion police).

She won't be rocking Manolos any time soon but she's still got stylish tootsies! I'm gutted I can't go to California to help her recuperate but I hope she knows how many people love and care about her and want her to get well soon!

What I Wore Wednesday: Oscars 2014 Red Carpet

So awards season is officially over and the biggest and the best of all the awards, The Oscars, took place this past weekend. If you didn't know that then seriously who are you? I love the Oscars and probably my favourite part are the dresses. Beautiful people in beautiful gowns, what more can you ask for?

All the major players and papers have named their fashion favourites but who cares what they say this is who I liked best at Oscars 2014!

Cate Blanchett, Armani
Normally I am not a fan of flesh coloured dresses but this just was so ethereal, delicate and elegant. Her dress, skin and hair are all sort of the same tone but it just totally shimmers and shines and works for me. Fun fact in the past 10 years 8 of the Best Actress winners have worn white or very pale dresses.

Sandra Bullock, Alexander McQueen
Everything. I love everything. The draping on the gown, that deep sapphire colour, her gorgeous old Hollywood hair--she looks stunning. She just exemplifies what a Best Actress nominee should look like walking down the red carpet.

Lupita Nyong'o, Prada
Again I'm not a fan of deep plunge necklines but she looked amazing. The pale pastel blue totally complemented her skin tone; she just looked radiant. I loved how she kept her accessories simple but elegant and wore arm bands instead of bracelets.

Olivia Wilde, Valentino
There were lots of beautiful bumps on the red carpet last night but my favourite was Olivia Wilde. I love a monochromatic look on the red carpet because to me black and white just screams elegant. She didn't hide her bump and I love that she kept her jewellery black and white too.

I won't say who looked the worst but I will say who was my most disappointing look of the night. I'm sure a lot of people won't agree with me but my least favourite look was:

margot robbie new look

Margot Robbie, Saint Laurent
I actually really like Margot Robbie; she used to play Donna on my favourite Australian soap Neighbours but I am not liking this look. I don't have any issues with her gown but coupled with her new dark hair, the heavy makeup and dark plum lip it really ages her and does not look good. It is all just far too dark and overwhelming.

Also honourable mention goes out to Jared Leto's gorgeous Mom, Constance; I am in love with her hair and it's how I imagine my hair would be if I ever go grey. Now we know why Jordan Catalano was so hot! Also dishonourable mention to his brother Shannon WTF happened to his face?

What I Wore Wednesday: House of Fraser SS14 Preview

I was lucky enough to get invited to House of Fraser's Spring/Summer 2014 preview earlier this month at the gorgeous Kibble Palace in Glasgow's Botanic Gardens.  Kibble Palace is a giant glass greenhouse (that description doesn't do it justice) and it was transformed into the most amazing fashion space for us that evening.

House of Fraser Glasgow

Kibble Palace was bathed in pink light, with giant paper flowers displays to compliment the botanical surroundings. Key looks and bags were on display and didn't look out of place next to a giant koi pond and statue of Venus. I'd never been to a fashion preview in a greenhouse before but it made perfect sense to preview the likes of  Maxmara, McQ, Acne and Linea.

Of course wandering around I fell in love with a ridiculously amazing Louboutin bag (damn my expensive taste) that would cost me at least a month's wages if not more. Knowing I'd be certain to drop said bag in a puddle the second I bought it I just lusted from afar.

House of Fraser Glasgow

Some this season's trends are not for me. I'm not someone who will bare her midriff (y'all don't want to see the c-section muffin top combo) and sheer panel skirts just aren't my thing. However I feel head over heels in love with their biker chic look by Armani Jeans and Levi. And who doesn't love Breton stripes?

House of Fraser Glasgow

Casual chic biker--who knew? I like to think I'm vaguely edgy so it really is no surprise that I was drawn to an amazing leather jacket and the perfect jeans. I've been in a bit of a style funk of late evidenced by my outfit for the event below. I felt woefully underdressed and unhip in last year's studded sweater and jeans but I've just lost inspiration of late.

It is still pretty cold here in Glasgow so I think I'm just not thinking Spring yet but hopefully as we move into March I'll get more of my spring trend on!

What I Wore Wednesday: Bold Souls

I love fashion shows and I've been really lucky to attend a few lately. Last week I attended Off the Catwalk by Bold Souls. Off the Catwalk united some of Scotland's most promising up and coming fashion talent. For the fashion show, local favourite Chouchou was joined by Scottish Fashion Award winner Joanne McGillivray, Scotland Re:Designed New Talent shortlisted Naromode, Vanilla Ink alumni jeweller Scarlett Erskine as well as fellow cult brands such as Rock and Royalty Couture, Spoiled Brat, Prints of Paradise and Danni McWilliams. From elegant sports luxe designs, beautifully illustrated prints to imaginative reworkings of traditional heritage fabrics, Bold Souls: Off The Catwalk showed off a diverse collection of some of Scotland's freshest design houses and retailers.

I couldn't believe the massive line that travelled up three flights of stairs to get to Hummingbird's penthouse when I arrived but the wait was well worth it. I ended up getting to sit with one of the most stylist and nicest fashion bloggers I know the lovely Wendy from Thank Fifi.

I'm not going to bother showing what I wore as it was basically the same outfit I wore when I spoke at BritMums Live except my skinnies were from New Look and I added my Ohio necklace. What I will show you is a selection of some of the amazing looks we saw on the runway.

Starting at the top going clockwise was an amazing look by LaLa Land who have recently launched their own clothing, in the middle a gorgeous plunging neckline exaggerated babydoll dress from Spoiled Brat, Chouchou Couture's new Hollywood Candy hood, Danni McWilliams' pink sweatshirt and mosaic stain glass slit skirt and Rock and Royalty's statement sweatshirt.

Here's a close up on that amazing Chouchou Couture hood which I'm so coveting right now. It was the most gorgeous Harris Tweed and fuchsia fur which I'm kicking myself for not trying on after the show!

I'm so in love with Rock and Royalty's "You Can't Sit with Us" sweatshirt. I'm totally obsessed with Mean Girls not to mention I love a good statement top. I'm dying to add this to my wardrobe since it could be worn casually or dressed up, too!

It was such a great evening and I love supporting local Scottish talent.

What I Wore Wednesday: Meet Miss West End Girl

I love being able to meet fellow Glaswegian bloggers at events and one of my favourite I've met is my soul sista Lynsay. We both have a penchant for all things glitter and she's one of the most likeable people I've ever met. I hope you'll will welcome her today and check out her fab blog!

British Museum London SpringHello! I'm Lynsay (AKA Miss West End Girl) and I'm chuffed to be guest posting on Transatlantic Blonde this week! Today's WIWW comes all the way from sunny London, where I spent a few days at the start of this month. The weather was so glorious that I finally got to bust out my sunglasses from Forever 21's Bats and Cats collection, hurrah! I love their exaggerated cat-eye shape and matte black finish - purr-fect (sorry) for prowling around the streets of London!

That day we decided a trip to the British Museum was in order, and making the most of the sunny weather, decided to walk. I couldn't think of a better way to stay comfy (and cute!) on the way than by wearing my pink Hello Kitty x Vans sneakers. Anyone that knows me will probably tell you that I am RARELY seen without something big/ sparkly/ ridiculous perched on my noggin, so continuing with my kitty theme that day I wore my black rhinestone Liberace ears by Crown and Glory (my favourites!).

My pink metallic skirt is by ASOS - my top bargain from this years post-Christmas sales (psst...it was only £13!) - it totally makes me want to be a cheerleader from outer space. Until that day comes, I'll continue to rock it as everyday wear! My tank top and biker jacket are from Topshop and polka dot tights are from Forever 21.

Pink Metallic Skirt

When it comes to jewellery, I'm less a diamonds and more a plastic kinda gal. My brooch and necklace are both by Tatty Devine - another one of my favourites!

We had an awesome day at the British Museum and if you're ever in London, it's worth checking out! Until the next trip I'm home sweet home for now, and you can read more from me writing about life and style in Glasgow (and beyond!) over at my blog. A huge thanks to the blonde bombshell herself for having me - have a wonderful week everyone!

What I Wore Wednesday: Debenhams SS 2014

I always look forward to attending Debenhams Press Shows and the SS14 Fashion and Beauty Show did not disappoint. Spring weather, let alone summer, hasn't arrived in Glasgow yet but SS fashion trends definitely have. I was lucky enough to have the fabulous Steph join me so I actually have decent photos for once, too!

Debenhams SS14

The show was once again at the gorgeous Blytheswood Square Spa Hotel one of my favourite places in Glasgow. After grabbing some yummy cocktails we got to check out some of the upcoming season's finest on display before we headed upstairs for the main event.

Reger by Janet Reger Lingerie

How gorgeous is this Reger by Janet Reger lingerie?

H! by Henry Holland

I'm always a sucker for H! by Henry Holland's fresh take on fashion.
How cute is that heart print playsuit and I have got to add that dark pink striped skater dress to my collection.

Pastel Yellow SatchelYellow Slingback Pumps

Steph totally fell in love with this pastel yellow cut out satchel by Red Herring and the matching Principles by Ben de Lisi yellow patent bow slingback pumps. I'm pretty sure where Steph is headed on pay day!

After I pried Steph away from those shoes we headed upstairs to check out beauty.

Debenhams Beauty Hall

All of your favourite brand from Debenhams beauty hall were there including Benefit, Bare Minerals, Fake Bake, Essie and more. I managed to get a manicure from the fab Tammy of DIY Nails in Essie's new Naughty Nautical, a turquoise polish with just the tiniest bit of glitter.
Essie Naughty Nautical

One of my favourite things I found out about on the night is Crystal Clear Lift Away The Years a clinically proven innovative anti-ageing applicator that is designed to create a skin that appears firmer and more toned. The wand uses sonic technology to instantly lift the skin while dispensing a serum to diminish the appearance of lines and wrinkles and enhance elasticity. I honestly was very sceptical before I tried it out but I had a cheek bone magically appear in less than 5 minutes and I'm a believer!

After we were spoiled by the best in beauty we headed over for the finale of the evening, and my favourite part, the fashion show of Spring/Summer 2014 trends.

Pink Biker Jacket

Biker chic is still in this season but it pastel pinks and corals like this this Preen/Edition pink biker jacket and black tapered trousers. I love the side zip and the bright colour makes it perfect for Spring.

Neon Sequin Top

Y'all know I'm a sucker for sequins so it should come as no surprise I loved this Butterfly by Matthew Williamson navy chino trousers, neon sequin vest and print kimono jacket combo. Kimonos are so on trend this season and I'm determined to dig my unworn one out of the closet for Spring (if I type it, it will be done!).

Lime Jacket

I think you can tell what Steph's favourite colour for spring is based on her favourite outfit! She fell in love with this Butterfly by Matthew Williamson lime embellished crepe jacket that was paired with a kaftan top and blue shorts. I could 100% see her rocking this outfit!

Monochrome BodyCon Dress

Finally we both loved this Star by Julien Macdonald monochrome bodycon dress. The angled stripes made it so flattering on the model and again I could totally see Steph rocking this dress.

Fashion Show Glasgow

It was a great evening and I'm so excited for better weather to come so I can start to wear some of SS14's must have trends. Brights, florals, pastels, retro, tribal, new nudes---what trend are you most excited about?

What I Wore Wednesday: Spring into Skin with Lush

$

Lush Sauchiehall Street GlasgowI'll be honest I fell off the beauty product wagon. I've always been a total make-up snob so I don't know why I thought buying skin care at the grocery store was okay. Luckily for me the lovely ladies of Lush Sauchiehall Street in Glagow reminded me of how their products are not only amazing but all natural, too.

Lush's products are 100% vegetarian (and over 97% of products are vegan) and never tested on animals.  If you've never been to a Lush store before their products are fun, fresh and smell amazing! Spring is a great time to rethink your skin care routine so we got to learn what products would work for us.

We started off the night by making up our very own fresh Cupcake face mask. Some of Lush's products are so fresh you need to refrigerate them (they are kept on ice in store) and this is one of them. It was literally just like mixing up an actual batch of cupcakes except these were good for you! When they say all natural ingredients are used they aren't kidding and obviously in the fresh products no preservatives either.

As well as their amazing skin care Lush is probably most well known for their fantastic bath products like their ballistics.

I always get ballistics at Christmas and then hoard them because I love them so much which I know doesn't make any sense! There are loads of new bath products this season like the Sakura ballistics and Ice Blue soap both of which smell amazing!

Lush Easter Bath Glitter

The also have tons of super cute Easter themed goodies if you are looking for an Easter basket alternative to chocolate or if you just love cute stuff! I had such a lovely time falling back in love with Lush and when I went to try the mask at home I wound up having some mother and son bonding time too!

Chocolate Face Mask

Blondie Boy had to get in on the fun too! He was disappointed he wasn't allowed to lick the mask off though! Blondie Boy has very sensitive skin and eczema and his skin did not flare at all; it just shows how natural and gentle Lush products are!

Lush have also just launched the Lush Kitchen cooking up small batches of exclusive products that they will then ship overnight to you! It will include retired products, limited one-offs and you can even tweet them with your own suggestions! How cool is that?

Are you a Lush fan? What is your favourite Lush product?

What I Wore Wednesday: The Watch Hut

Watches today are more about style and fashion than practicality since just about everyone has a cell phone that can tell them what time it is but I think I've been seeing more people wearing watches lately than less. What watch you wear definitely makes a fashion statement and The Watch Hut have something for everyone.

The Watch Hut is the UK's largest online retailer of watches, offering a bigger and better selection of timepieces than any other UK website. Their watches provide an option for everyone, whether it’s time to work or time to play. Since launching in 2005, The Watch Hut has sought to offer only the best in prestigious and designer watches to our customers in the UK and beyond.

These are a few of my favourite watches new in at The Watch Hut:

Kate Spade Pink Gold Watch

I love this Kate Spade pink and gold Skyline watch. The pop of neon makes it perfect for spring!

Marc Jacobs Rose Gold Watch

One of my friends got a rose gold watch for Christmas and I've been eyeing it ever since. This Marc by Marc Jacobs Bakers Watch is delicate but not too dainty.

Vivienne Westwood Watch

I'm such a huge Vivienne Westwood fan and the added orb charm on this Red Leather Strap Watch just totally makes it!

Do you wear a watch regularly? Do you like daintier or chunkier watches?

Finding a bra that fits right is SO important. The right style, size and fit of bra can completely change your silhouette. Luckily Debenhams is helping y'all discover your perfect bra fit with the help of its expert fit service. From now until Saturday 26 April if you have a free bra fit in store you receive £5 off when you spend £30 or more on lingerie!

models in bras

Debenhams trained bra fit specialist will help you find the right sized bra for you. Whether you are looking for occasion wear, lingerie or everyday bras. There is a huge range of brands in store including Ultimo, Fantasie, Freya, Triumph and Debenhams own brands Ultimate, Gorgeous and Spirit.

I went in myself and had a fitting with the lovely Shaniece who fit me into the perfect bra for me with the first style she showed me.  I'm notoriously picky about bras. I'm a busty girl and I hate when bras that give the support I need, squish or flatten my shape. I've good big boobs and I want them to look big--is that so wrong?  Shaniece found a bra that flattered my shape and gave me the support and comfort I need; it turned out I've gone up to a 34G but your size can vary bra to bra.

Nude Bra

Debenhams Gorgeous Back Smoothing T-Shirt Bra gave me the round shape I love, but with added support from underwire and the wider back straps. The back straps also totally smooth out and lumps and bumps that can appear with skinnier straps. It is super comfy and if I'm honest I was totally surprised how much I loved it. The Debenhams Gorgeous ranges is designed specifically for those of us in sizes D and up and totally combine support and style.

Shaniece suggests you get fitted every six months and always get fitted if you are trying a different style. You can get more wear out of your bra by moving in to the inner hooks as your bra stretches, too. Who knew?

The Debenhams event ends this Saturday so be sure to get in before to get £5 off a £30 spend! You can't beat that now can you?

Are you loyal to one brand of bra or do you have lots of different styles and brands?
When was the last time you had your size checked?

What I Wore Wednesday: Hotter Shoes

I love shoes. I can remember playing shoe shop with my younger sister in my Grandma's closet as a little girl and I'm pretty sure my love of shoes is genetic. My great great grandfather supposedly owned a shoe factory in Riga so the love of shoes goes back many generations. The only thing I love more than gorgeous shoes is comfortable shoes.

For me comfortable shoes should still be stylish and when you find that perfect combo of comfort and style I'm a happy girl. Luckily Hotter Shoes does just that--comfortable shoes that come with a 100% happy guarantee. All their shoes have hidden ‘Comfort Concept’ elements inside- such as soles that bend, hidden cushioning and hidden elastic behind buckles but are still trend lead.  Comfortable, trendy shoes that are guaranteed? When #CollectiveBias asked if I'd like to visit my local Hotter store I had to check it out!

Hotter is a UK based company who champion British manufacturing and design. They produce a pair of shoes every 20 seconds and as well as 65 stores throughout the UK you can also shop online worldwide.

It was a beautiful sunny day in Glasgow so I was immediately drawn in by this summer picnic window display of super cute slip-ons, loafers and floral print canvas lace-ups.

Every year when the sun starts coming out I start dreaming of my perfect wedges. I love Hotter's Hannah Heels super soft suede pom pom detail and cushioning underfoot gives you extra comfort, whilst a hidden elasticated panel behind the adjustable buckle offers added stretch room. Wedges that are cute and comfy? Score!

Loafers and slip-ons are really in this season. I call them boat shoes because they make me think of tanned, glamourous people sailing around in the sunshine in crisp white outfits. Just me? I don't have any shoes similar to this style in my wardrobe so I decided to try on two different styles of slip-ons or boat shoes.

These super soft nubuck and leather Laura Shoes are gently cushioned and naturally breathable. I loved the bright blue contrasting with the lighter, softer tan and they were super comfortable!

How sweet are these pink Kate Shoes with leather lace bow and on-trend contrast stitching? I loved the rose shade of this leather boat shoe and a padded insole means your feet are cosseted, whilst a lightweight flexible sole will stand the test of the toughest days.

I had a good think about my wardrobe and which shoes I'd probably get the most wear out of this summer. It will probably come as no surprise to anyone that I went with one of my most favourite colours--pink!

It probably didn't hurt I wore pink into the store!  I'm already picturing wearing my new boat shoes with everything from floaty sundresses to khaki capris.  How would you style these boat shoes?

What I Wore Wednesday: Paul Mitchell Intelligent Styling

$

I love my hair. I fully own up to the fact that my state of mind/mood is impacted by whether or not I'm happy with my hair. And I'll be honest I've never been the best at styling my hair. I tend to wear it down and straight or down and wavy--that's all I got. I blame my Mom who used my sister and I like Barbie dolls and braided and bowed our hair but never really taught us how to do it ourselves. So I was really excited to head to the Paul Mitchell Intelligent Styling event at Hely Hair Studio in Hyndland.

The event was the launch and learn about Paul Mitchell's new Neuro Intelligent Styling toolsThe Neuro®, precision instruments include the Neuro® Dry, Neuro® Smooth, Neuro® Unclipped Rod, Neuro® Unclipped 1.25, Neuro® Unclipped 0.75 and Neuro® Curl. I personally fell in love with the Neuro Curl which creates waves and curls. It has a premium titanium barrel to ensure fast, precisely regulated heat in seconds and the clip grips hair for better style control and a smooth finish. I like my curling wand but this makes curls and waves so much quicker and easier!

The talented staff at Hely Hair Studio were on hand to create a variety of looks using the new Neuro tools as well as new Paul Mitchell express dry products. I opted to try a braided or plaited look because it is something I've never been able to execute myself.

Flirty Fishtail Braid Plaited Crown

First up I tried a flirty fishtail braid with a plaited crown. It's hard to tell but there is a teeny, tiny braid wrapped around the braid bun! This looked so amazing from the back and is definitely something I could never do myself but I was a bit self-conscious about how it looked from the front. Basically I was all face and I have A LOT of face!

Plaited Fringe Braid with Curls

So next we tried braiding just the front from my part to behind my ear and then I played with the Neuro Curl to create some waterfall curls at the end. We also kept that teeny, tiny braid I mentioned before (see it on the left?). I loved this look and it would be perfect for a day at the beach as your hair would be out of your face but not scraped back into a ponytail.

I got some great tips from the team at Hely Hair Studio on how to recreate this look myself but I've not given it a try yet. When you braid or plait your hair like this yourself you need to work upwards rather than downwards--otherwise you end up with what I have had in the past which is just a random braid hanging in your face!

What is your favourite way to style your hair?
What styling tool or product could you not live without?

Our local grocery store is Morrisons so since it is only a 10 minute walk away we were really excited to hear about our new cheaper Morrisons. From this past bank holiday weekend they have cut the prices on over a thousand of your favourite products. Not temporary reductions or supermarket smoke and mirrors but new every day low prices on the things you buy every week. How fab is that? So we headed to the store to see how much it would be to make one of our favourite recipes: Grilled Steak and Cheese Sandwiches.

If you haven't been to a Morrisons in a while now is the time to go. The new remodelled stores are amazing and remind me of grocery stores back home in America!

grocery store herb mister

There are misters on the fruits, vegetables and herbs! These are common place in stores in America but I've only ever seen them at Morrisons in the UK!

morrisons butcher counter

We love that Morrisons have proper butchers in store. We've found that the meat at Morrisons is always a higher standard and better quality than other stores.

morrisons bakery counter

How drool worthy is the bakery counter? There are tons of freshly made creations like donuts, cupcakes, cookies and more! I was so tempted!

I was good though and stuck to the plan to get our ingredients for the steak sandwiches, lots of fresh fruit for smoothies and some few World Cup stickers for a certain little helper!

2014 FIFA Word Cup Stickers

Steak sandwiches are one of our go-to meals and shopping for ingredients at the new cheaper Morrisons works out to only £3.12 per person! Plus lots of leftover peppers for Blondie Boy to snack on the rest of the week and some fly baguette for NotBlondeHusband to make a midnight snack! We cooked the sandwich two ways, regular for me and spicy for NBH.

Grilled Steak and Cheese Sandwiches

Ingredients
2 Scotch Beef Prime Popeye Rump Steaks
Medium Cheddar Cheese
Salad Peppers
Sliced Mushrooms
2 White Onions
Bird Eye Chillies
1 Baguette
Mayonnaise
Sriracha

1) Roughly chop one pepper into large pieces, chop onion. De-seed and finely chop four small bird's eye chillis.

2) Season steak. Regular sandwich seasoned with salt and pepper, spicy sandwich add dry chillis.

3a) For regular sandwich, pre-heat pan to a high heat. Add peppers and cook for five minutes until charred. Turn down heat, add onions and cook for a further five minutes, add mushrooms and cook for five minutes until onions are translucent and mushrooms are cooked.
3b) For spicy sandwich, pre-heat pan to a medium heat, add chopped bird's eye chillis and onions, cook for five minutes, add mushrooms and cook for five minutes more.

4) In same pan cook steak to desired temperature (we like medium, medium-rare).

5) Slice steak and put in baguette. Top with desired veg and cheese. Melt cheese under pre-heated medium grill.

6) Add desired sauce: mayonnaise on regular sandwich, sriracha on spicy.

7) Serve and enjoy!

This is one of our go to dinners and I'd say we have it at least every two weeks since it is so easy and quick to make. It's a great way to enjoy steak without having to spend a lot of money. We find these are great on their own but you could serve with fries or a side salad, too!

What I Wore Wednesday: Hard Rock Cafe Glasgow

When we were little our Dad would bring us back Hard Rock Cafe pins from his business trips. I remember getting this amazing HRC tee in Washington DC where the eagle had a guitar in his claws and walking in the rain to a Hard Rock in Paris. In fact I probably have a lot of Hard Rock stories and have visited a few in the US and abroad. Needless to say I was pretty stoked when one arrived in Glasgow a few months ago.

A few weeks ago I was invited to try out Hard Rock Cafe Glasgow's new menu of American classics with a twist. Unsurprisingly as an American expat I was crazy, ridiculous excited---this may me an understatement! I love American food and well most places in Glasgow that do "American" food don't actually have any American roots or any sort of validity.

We were greeted with their AeroMexico flight--three margaritas and a side of chips and salsa. How freaking cute is that! I was driving so our flight had virgin strawberry daiquiris which were so good. I normally can't eat salsa in Glasgow because it has so much cilantro in it but this was perfect!

Aeromexico flight margarita chips salsa

I should have gotten photos of our massive nachos and sampler plate of potato skins, onion rings, wings, bruschetta and chicken tenders but I was more focused on scarfing then on snapping! My absolute favourite though was the spinach and artichoke dip. NOWHERE in Glasgow has spinach and artichoke dip and I miss it so much. This did not disappoint and I mar or may have not nabbed another tables when they didn't finish it!

Blonde Cocktails

Next I moved on to possibly my new favourite mocktail the Groupie Grinder. The name is clearly awesome and it is mango Purée, housemade piña colada mix and pineapple juice blended with a fresh strawberry swirl. YUM! It went really well with my main course of cajun battered shrimp, fries and citrus slaw. I swapped out my cocktail sauce for ranch dressing because I'm American and I can! When you see ranch abroad you order it!

RHCP Foo Fighters Poster

Like every Hard Rock Cafe there is lots of rock and roll memorabilia and a great selection from Scottish artists. My favourite though had to be this Red Hot Chili Pepper and Foo Fighters poster for a concert in Ohio! It was funny to see something from my home state.

It was such a great night and I ate FAR too much! I'm excited to go back again and most likely eat my body weight in spinach and artichoke dip and drink it in Groupie Grinders!

So obviously this is What I Wore Wednesday so what did I wear you ask? Well for me there wasn't any question what to wear to the Hard Rock:

Hard Rock Cafe Glasgow

It had to be my Guns n Roses tee! I paired it with jeans, a studded bracelet and gym shoes. I would have liked cuter shoes but it was absolutely freezing and I took public transportation so practical won out!  As you can see the fabulous Miss West End Girl clearly outdressed me in her leopard wedge trainers, ballerina skirt and bowler hat!

Have you ever been to the Hard Rock Cafe? What would you have worn?

What I Wore Wednesday: Hely Hair Studio, Glasgow

I've been told that shadow roots are the new "in" thing for hair but let's be honest I just let my highlights get WAY too grown out. This is the second time in a year I've let my hair venture into unintentional ombre area and I don't know what I keep doing this to myself! I love being blonde and my natural dingy shade of blonde just doesn't cut it--I want my hair to be blondie, blonde, blonde, BLONDE!

Luckily the fabulous Sindy from Hely Hair Studio came to my rescue. I was really impressed with Sindy and the team at Hely Hair from the Paul Mitchell event last month so I made an appointment to come in and get my hair sorted out! My highlights needed sorted and my cut was way grown out and was lacking shape and style.

shadow roots blonde

I met with Sindy earlier in the week to discuss what I was after; basically a brighter blonde with lowlights in my natural dirty blonde so any growth isn't super obvious. My number one hair length rule is it always has to be long enough to go in a ponytail but otherwise I wasn't fussed with how much needed to come off to make it look fuller and healthier.

Sindy mixed up three different shades and I got all foiled up. After my colour was processed I got a deep conditioning treatment that made me feel like I'd temporarily joined Daft Punk.

daft punk helmets

I didn't have to worry about getting lucky though because my cut and colour came about amazing! I ended up having a few inches off to bring back my long layers and give some shape to my hair and the blonde is back!

best blonde in glasgow

I love going brighter blonde for summer--who am I kidding I love being a brighter blonde all year round! I'm super happy with how my hair has turned out and I'm so glad to have found somewhere that can give me the style and colour I love so much! If you are looking for a salon in Glasgow to give you that perfect blonde hair I can't recommend Hely Hair Studio enough!

What I Wore Wednesday: I've got a secret...

So the past two months have been interesting. My previous contract ended March 31st so since then I've been applying for jobs and going on interviews. I was getting told I was over-qualified and would end up bored or I was the perfect candidate but outside their budget. Then of course there was the 15+ calls for positions in London which sounded amazing but umm yea I live in Glasgow!

So it all was getting a bit frustrating. I had bits of freelance work in the meantime but the longer it went on the more anxious I got. Then I had three interviews within three days and three offers not even a week later! So now I have a new contract and will start June 2nd and I feel like a massive weight has been lifted off my shoulders. But you see there is a bit more to the story as to why I could breathe a huge sigh of relief.

pregnant blonde

I'm pregnant. 21 1/2 weeks pregnant to be exact. Going on job interviews 19 weeks pregnant is interesting to say the least! I wasn't lying about my pregnancy but I was employing every tv trick (you know when actress is pregnant, but character isn't) in the book to disguise my growing bump: cropped blazer, long scarves and the giant bag you see above.

My new contact knows I am pregnant and are totally okay with it and accommodating so I couldn't be happier. The job is really exciting and challenging and will see me work between Edinburgh and Glasgow up until September when I will take a break to have Blondie Boy's new sibling and then come back a few months later to finish up! It's great to not only have a new contract but to know I will have work waiting for me when I come back, too!

Blondie Boy is pretty excited although he is very clear he doesn't want to have to deal with any poopy diapers. His super cute big brother tee is from Tee and Toast. You have no idea how hard it was to find a cool big brother tee!

Second time around I feel like my bump is much bigger so normal clothes aren't really an option. That being said this is a maxi dress I've worn before that I got at TK Maxx but since I'm a shorty it actually fits better with my bump taking more fabric and making it shorter!

It's so nice to be able to show off my bump rather than hide it and now I'm in full on maternity shopping mode! So tell me what are your favourite maternity brands? It's been 5 years since my last pregnancy and I'm hoping that the selection has improved :)

I will keep WIWW to fashion and do a bump update every Friday but I can't really help that maternity wear is going to creep in so apologizes if that annoys anyone! I do have a fabulous, non-maternity, giveaway coming soon so keep your eyes peeled!

When I was pregnant with Blondie Boy I did weekly updates and bump photos; since I posted a photo on Wednesday I won't share another one today but I will try to do a weekly update this time around, too! If you want to compare here is BB's 22 week update.

*How far along?: 22 weeks
*Total weight gain: I've not gotten on the scales because I've not been asked!
*How big is baby?: Papaya
*Maternity clothes?: Yes; I'm 99% sure I'm ridiculously bigger this time around
*Sleep?: I keep waking up between 4:30-6 in the morning and then either getting back to sleep around 7 if it's an earlier wake up or just be up for the day if later. Needless to say I'm tired.
*Best moment this week?: Last Friday we found out the baby's sex, but aren't telling anyone #TeamSmug
*Movement?: I mostly feel movement when I'm leaning forward at the laptop or in bed. Basically if I infringe upon the bebe's space they are not pleased.
*Food cravings?: Lemonade, lemon pasta, lemons in general
*Labor signs?: No
*Belly button in or out?: Innie but I've had a pregnancy belly bar in for awhile
*What I miss: Energy

Bump Watch 2014: 23 Weeks

So this was my first week commuting to Edinburgh and my cousin's last few days visiting Scotland. Door to door getting to Leith and back we are talking about at least a 12 hour day and needless to say it got to me. I've got the worst cold (and maybe sinus infection) ever so am ever so lucky that I am able to work from home 2 days a week! That being said I look like ass so there is no bump pic this week.

I met my midwife for the first time this week (seems late right?) and she seemed fine. Appointment went really quickly. Bebe's heartbeat was fine, my blood pressure was fine and my bump was measuring right where it should be. They never measured my bump with BB so I thought that was interesting. I'll see her again in 6 weeks and I have an appointment with the physio at the end of June as SPD is slowly showing it's ugly face again.

*How far along?: 23 weeks

*Total weight gain: Don't know, they don't weigh me at my appointments so I might just delete this

*How big is baby?: My bump app (BB loves reading the updates on my phone) says a grapefruit but last time I was told a mango. So the size of some fleshy fruit.

*Maternity clothes?: I have some dresses that aren't mat I'm still wearing and I wore non-maternity leggings to work but I think they sort of cut my bump in half and make it look funny so will probably need to invest in more maternity leggings (I only have one pair).

*Sleep?: Just like last time I've got the wrist splints out for pregnancy induced carpal tunnel but luckily so far it's not an every day thing. I've been sleeping a bit better since I'm working and basically all but dead by the time I get home and have a collection of 3 pillow that alternate between my legs and bump. I dread to think how I'll sleep at the end when I'm a beached whale.

*Best moment this week?: NBH felt the bebe move for the first time and I started my new contract. Also I suggested a name to NBH and he replied "I don't hate it." Considering he has flat out vetoed my past suggestions this is progress!

*Movement?: The past 48 they've gotten way more active. Generally I only felt movement at night or if I was leaning forward/invading their space but now it is stronger and throughout the day a bit. I was hoping this kid would be a bit more chill and relaxed compared to their big brother but maybe I've got another full energy one headed my way. I expect full on hockey checks (as opposed to just kicks) in my future.

*Food cravings?: I've not been really hungry this week since I've been ill.

*Labor signs?: No

*Belly button in or out?: Innie

*What I miss: Right now breathing through my nose.

*What I'm looking forward to: Feeling better and going on holiday in 12 days.

*Milestone: NBH feeling the bebe move.

If you like to compare here is Blondie Boy's 23 week update from 2009.

What I Wore Wednesday: 2014 Tony Awards

Last Sunday was the Tony Awards so this week I thought I'd share my favourite looks from the Red Carpet. I feel like the Tony's are a little less formal than other awards shows and the red carpet is a bit more relaxed and a bit more wearable if that makes any sense!

Beth Behrs- Caroline Herrera

I love this dress. I'm a big fan of monochromatic looks and I love how this is almost tow dresses in one. The geometric pattern on the skirt is just so unlike anything I've seen in a while as well so I think the fact it is so unusual but wearable sold me.

Image from E!Online
Sutton Foster-Reem Acra

I'll admit I hadn't heard of Foster before but oh how I love this dress. It reminds me of my senior prom dress which was also fuchsia with a full skirt. I love that she kept the rest of her look very simple to counteract the super bright pink.

Image Elle.com
Orlando Bloom

I can not find anywhere who Bloom was wearing but I loves this blue and black tux. It's a new twist on a classic and in my head I'm imagining NotBlondHusband being able to pull off this colour combination, too.

Image US Weekly
Zachary Quinto- Thom Sweeney

If I'm honest it isn't about the tux for me, it is ALL about the shoes! How fab are his shoes? I think they are St Laurent but I don't have

Don't forget I've got a fab giveaway to win a Hotter Handbag! It's open to US and UK residents and closes June 16th.
Good luck!
